Earlier, the ministry had said that more than 220 local and foreign aid organizations stopped operations in the past one year.
German media have reported that four local employees of The German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) have been arrested in Afghanistan.
According to the reports, the GIZ provides development and stabilization assistance to the people in Afghanistan, but has now decided to temporarily halt its activities in the country.
“GIZ was a technical German organization which was cooperating with different technical schools in Afghanistan and sometimes with the Afghan chamber of commerce and investment. We want the continuation of the organization, Afghanistan has more investment opportunities compared with other countries,” said the deputy head of the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment (ACCI), Mohammad Younus Momand.
In the meantime, economic analysts believe that the presence of such organizations is crucial in Afghanistan and that the Islamic Emirate should provide facilities to them.
“The Islamic Emirate should strive to provide facilities so that the humanitarian organizations in Afghanistan can operate,” said Abdul Naseer Reshtia, an economic analyst.
Even though the Islamic Emirate has not commented on the arrest of GIZ’s local employees and the suspension of operations, the Ministry of Economy said that all foreign aid organizations can operate in Afghanistan as for as they protect the national interests of the country.
“Support for aid organizations and providing them operational facilities are the top policies of the Islamic Emirate, but their operations should not be in violation of the national interests of Afghanistan,” said Abdul Latif Nazari, Deputy Minister of Economy.
