Ukraine says that over the past 24 hours, more than 100 settlements have come under artillery fire from Russian forces. The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine spoke about how he sees the further development of the war.
Russian forces attacked the positions of Ukrainian troops in the Kupyansky, Bakhmutsky, Avdeevsky, Maryinsky and Shakhtarsky directions, but were unsuccessful. This is stated in the report of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Ukraine states that over the past 24 hours, more than 100 settlements in the Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkov, Lugansk, Donetsk, Zaporozhye, Kherson and Nikolaev regions have come under artillery fire.
Dozens of villages and towns were subjected to air strikes. There are civilian casualties.
EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell assured Kiev of support: “Moscow should have no illusions: other crises will not distract our attention from Ukraine. Our support will continue as long as necessary.”
Russia’s Defense Ministry said one Ukrainian drone was shot down over the Black Sea on Thursday night and five more were intercepted over annexed Crimea.
Russia says its armed forces are using precision-guided missile weapons to target Ukrainian military infrastructure.
“The war is moving into a positional stage”
According to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny, the military conflict is moving to a new stage of positional warfare with static and protracted battles.
The war between Ukraine and Russia has “reached a dead end” and risks dragging on for many years without breakthroughs on both sides. Zaluzhny said this in an interview with The Economist.
“We need to harness the power of new technologies,” Zaluzhny said. In his opinion, the biggest risk of a trench war of attrition is that it could drag on for years and exhaust the Ukrainian state.
“Russia lost at least 150 thousand people killed. In any other country, such losses would have stopped the war,” the commander-in-chief noted.
