The volume of commerce between Afghanistan and Iran is estimated by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce to be two billion dollars annually.
Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the deputy prime minister for economic affairs, led a high-ranking delegation from the Islamic Emirate to Iran.
According to the statement of the Deputy of the Prime Minister’s Office, in addition to meeting with Iranian officials, the delegation will also discuss bilateral relations, trade, transit, increasing trade through Chabahar port and attracting Iranian investment in various sectors of the country.
“In the meeting of the delegation with Iranian officials, bilateral trade relations, transit, transportation, infrastructure, railways, regional connectivity, increasing trade through Chabahar port and the development of economic cooperation between the two countries will be discussed,” said Akhundzada Abdul Salam Javad, spokesman of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce.
Meanwhile, the Afghanistan Chamber of Industry and Mines (ACIM) considers the visit of the delegation of the Islamic Emirate to Iran as politically and economically important.
Sakhi Ahmad Payman, first deputy of ACIM, emphasized that in the situation where the country’s businessmen have faced serious challenges in Pakistan’s Karachi port, this trip can provide help for businessmen in Iran’s Chabahar port.
“Abdul Ghani Baradar’s visit to Iran is politically and economically important in the situation where our commercial goods are in trouble at the port of Karachi of Pakistan. And we have had good trade, transit and investment relations with Iran for two years. We hope that more facilities be provided in Chabahar and Bandar Abbas ports,” Payman noted.
According to some economists, the efforts of the officials of the Islamic Emirate to attract foreign investment in Afghanistan can be effective in the growth of the country’s economy.
“We can say that international companies that invest in Afghanistan can encourage domestic companies to increase their production to become international suppliers,” Seiyar Qureshi, an economist told TOLOnews.
“Iran, which has been subject to sanctions for many years, is not very strict about relations. And the presence of the private sector of Afghanistan, with their national and international experience, is useful in this delegation,” Azerakhsh Hafizi, another economist, told TOLOnews.
After Pakistan, Iran has the greatest transit and commercial trade with Afghanistan.
