Pakistan, Russia Urge Regional Unity On Afghanistan For Security

Pakistan and Russia have urged regional cooperation to address security concerns stemming from Afghanistan. This call came during a meeting in Islamabad between Russia’s envoy, Ambassador Zamir Kabulov, and Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch.

The discussions emphasized the need for continuous engagement among neighboring countries to ensure a peaceful Afghanistan. Both sides agreed that regional stability is essential for mutual security and prosperity.

Russia and Pakistan face specific threats from Afghanistan-based militants. Russia is troubled by Daesh activity, while Pakistan accuses Afghanistan’s government of supporting the TTP, which Kabul denies.

Russia has moved to normalize ties with Afghanistan by delisting the Taliban as a terrorist organization. Meanwhile, Pakistan has taken a tougher approach, pressuring Kabul to act against TTP.

Both nations also see Afghanistan as key to regional trade projects like the TAPI Gas Pipeline. These initiatives depend on Afghan stability, making security cooperation crucial for economic progress.
