US Approves Sending F-16 Fighter Jets to Ukraine From the Netherlands and Denmark – Reuters

They will be sent immediately after the completion of the training of Ukrainian pilots.

The United States of America approved the sending of F-16 fighter jets from Denmark and the Netherlands to Ukraine. They will be sent immediately after pilot training is completed .

It is reported by  Reuters . The States have officially assured Denmark and the Netherlands that they will expedite the approval of all necessary formalities for the transfer of these aircraft to Ukraine as soon as the training of Ukrainian pilots is completed. Denmark and the Netherlands have recently requested such assurances.

An unnamed American official told the agency that US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken sent letters to the authorities in Denmark and the Netherlands. He assured that the respective requests of the countries would be approved.

“I am writing to express the full support of the United States in both the transfer of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine and the training of Ukrainian pilots by qualified F-16 instructors,” Blinken said in a letter. 

He noted that “it is very important that Ukraine could protect itself from Russian aggression and violation of its sovereignty.” In addition, the US Secretary of State stressed that the transfer of F-16 fighters will allow Ukraine “to take full advantage of the new capabilities, as soon as the first group of pilots complete their training.”

Armament for Ukraine: the latest news from the allies

On August 17, it became known that Ukraine received two more  IRIS-T SAM launchers . They were transferred by Germany. 

In addition, the Czech Republic announced that it would transfer a batch of Mi-24V helicopters to Ukraine . Instead, the Czech army will receive UH-1Y Venom and AH-1Z Viper helicopters from the United States. At the same time, the number of helicopters that will be sent to Ukraine is not called. 

At the same time, the UK will transfer over $114 million worth of air defense systems to Ukraine. The country has signed three contracts, one of which is with the Norwegian defense company Kongsberg. From this enterprise, Ukraine will receive systems to counter unmanned aerial vehicles UAS.
