Mujahid said that there are no restrictions on meetings of Hamid Karzai, but they should be through the address of the Islamic Emirate.
The Islamic Emirate’s Spokesman denied restrictions on the former Afghan President Hamid Karzai but stressed that Karzai’s meetings should be through addresses of the Islamic Emirate.
Zabiullah Mujahid said that Karzai currently doesn’t have any political position and that he is a normal citizen of the country.
Mujahid’s remarks come one day after a TOLOnews report that said the former president has been restricted from traveling abroad.
“As long as we know, he has had several trips at various times, he himself might have not wanted to go. If they have shared the issues, I don’t have exact information that his visit faced problems,” he said.
Mujahid said that there are no restrictions on meetings of Hamid Karzai, but they should be through the address of the Islamic Emirate.
“There are some political issues which the ruling (government) doesn’t consider proper, because it maybe wants it to be discussed from one address, there could be some observation in this regard but there is no general restriction” he said.
This comes as some political analysts said that Karzai is an influential figure in the country and that there should be no restrictions on his meetings.
“These restrictions were unnecessary. It is not reconciled. It is against the motive of trust building which is needed in Afghanistan,” said Toreq Farhadi, a political analyst.
Earlier, the relatives of Hamid Karzai confirmed to TOLOnews that three official invitations from other nations were sent to Karzai when he returned from the UK, but the Islamic Emirate has not yet let him travel abroad.
