WFP: We Need $840 Million to Help People in Need

Meanwhile, the Islamic Emirate emphasized that they are trying to distribute aid to the citizens of the country in a transparent manner.

The World Food Program said in a report that they need $840 million for services from December 2023 to May 2024 to help the needy people in Afghanistan.

Based on the report, in October, more than four million people in need of cash and food have been helped.

“In October, WFP reached 4.4 million people with emergency food, cash, nutrition, and livelihoods support. WFP distributed 24,691 mt in-kind assistance and made cash-based transfers totaling US$8.3 million across various programmes,” said WFP.

“From January to the end of September 2023, the World Food Program has helped 17.2 million people with 488.000 metric tons of food and $149 million in cash or vouchers, including 8.6 million women and 9.9 million children,” said Ziauddin Safi, who is responsible for communications of the WFP.

some residents of the capital want the aid provided in a transparent manner to the needy people in the country.

“No one helps us here where I am, daily we went home with 50 or 100 afghani,” said Zmari, a Kabul resident.

“We have not received any help until now, we have not received any help for almost two or two and a half years,” said Wahid Azizi, a Kabul resident.

Meanwhile, the Islamic Emirate emphasized that they are trying to distribute aid to the citizens of the country in a transparent manner.

“Our effort is that the aid is done in the development dimension and our demand of the international community and aid organizations is to support the development of Afghanistan in the infrastructure sector,” said Abdul Latif Nazari, deputy of the Economy Ministry.

“Afghanistan is experiencing an economic crisis, the more humanitarian aid increases, the more the economy will deteriorate,” said Abdul Zahur Mudabir, an economist.

Earlier, the US Institute of Peace (USIP), after reviewing the recent reports of the World Bank on the economic situation of Afghanistan, said that the Afghan economy is on the edge of the abyss and Afghanistan still needs humanitarian aid.
