Muttaqi said negotiations and visits of senior delegations are important for the extension of bilateral relations between the two countries.
Iran’s ambassador to Kabul Hassan Kazemi Qomi in a meeting with the acting Foreign Minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, said that a delegation from the judicial system of Iran will travel to Kabul in the near future, according to the deputy spokesman for the Foreign Minister, Hafiz Zia Ahmad Takal.
The delegation is due to visit Kabul to discuss cooperation in judicial issues and cases involving Afghan nationals who have been sentenced to death in Iran, Qomi said as quoted by Takal.
Muttaqi said negotiations and visits of senior delegations are important for the extension of bilateral relations between the two countries.
“The Afghanistan embassy in Tehran should review the cases of those inmates who are sentenced to death. If needed, it should conduct necessary negotiations with the Iranian officials,” said Asifa Stanikzai, a refugee rights activist.
This comes as the Islamic Emirate’s Charge d’affaires in Iran, Fazl Mohammad Haqqani, said that Tehran has not provided them with details about the number of Afghan refugees sentenced to death and their crimes.
“The exact number of people who are set to be executed is not in our hands. Their crimes are also not clarified. We ask the Iranian officials to provide us with the number of the people who are going to be executed and to clarify their crimes,” he said.
According to the Afghanistan embassy in Tehran, more than 4,800 Afghans are held in prisons in Iran and 850 inmates have been taken to Afghanistan within the last month.
Meanwhile, some Afghan refugees whose family members are held in prison in Iran criticised Iranian forces, saying that they have been conducting arbitrary detentions.
“Eight members of our family were detained 20 days ago. They were proved not guilty in the court and it was expected that they would be released on Saturday but unfortunately they have yet to be released,” said Naveed Tajik, an Afghan refugee in Iran.
“We call on the Islamic Republic of Iran to treat the refugees based on the neighboring countries’ law and international rules,” said Enayatullah Alokozai, an Afghan refugee in Iran.
