Over the past week, the average wholesale price for watermelons in Uzbekistan has decreased by a third and current wholesale prices are 20% lower than at the same of 2022, EastFruit reports.
Wholesale batches of new crop watermelons appeared on the markets of the capital of Uzbekistan in the second decade of May this year – about two weeks earlier than last year. After staying at 3,000 UZS/kg ($0.26) for just one week, the average wholesale price for this product fell by a third in the following week.
According to EastFruit price monitoring from May 26 to June 2, 2023 the average wholesale price for watermelons in Uzbekistan decreased from 3,000 to 2,000 sum/kg (from $0.26 to $0.18). At the same time, as of June 2, 2023, the average wholesale prices of watermelons were 20% lower than at the same date of last year and exactly corresponds to the levels recorded on the same date of 2021.
Moreover, the current wholesale prices for watermelons in Uzbekistan are several times lower than in other countries where EastFruit conducts wholesale price monitoring. As of June 2, 2023, the average wholesale prices for melons in the countries of the region were: in Uzbekistan – $0.18; Tajikistan – $0.41; Georgia – $0.53; Moldova – $0.93; belarus – $1.03.
